Tour de Celeb
Eight flagship Superbs and two Octavia vRS Estates will be used throughout the event as part of Skoda's commitment to cycling
ŠKODA’s packed summer of cycling activity is set to get even busier. The brand will support Channel 5’s forthcoming Tour De Celeb television series, which follows a group of eight celebrities as they train for the gruelling L’Etape du Tour in France.
Sporting heroes Austin Healey, Darren Gough and Amy Williams will be joined by Louie Spence, Jodie Kidd and Angellica Bell, plus reality TV stars Lucy Mecklenburgh and Hugo Taylor on an arduous training regime to prepare them for one of the ultimate cycling challenges. L’Etape du Tour covers 90 miles (146km) and is one of the toughest stages in the history of the Tour de France, running through the French Alps from Megéve to Morzine.
Training will be monitored by top-level coaches including Dame Sarah Storey OBE, Britain’s most decorated female Paralympians in cycling and swimming, and three-time Olympic medallist and double Track World Champion Rob Hayles who will make sure the riders reach L’Etape start line in the best possible shape. They’ll be joined by Asker Jeukendrup, an internationally renowned exercise physiologist, sports nutritionist and Ironman tri-athlete.
ŠKODA will supply 10 support vehicles – eight flagship Superbs and two Octavia vRS Estates – for the duration of the event and training period. The brand will also be involved with other big cycling events during the summer, including the 2016 Tour De France – where it will be official car partner for the 12th year – and the Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling in the UK.
